Independent mushroom mami? (or papi)The sale of freshly harvested magic mushrooms is no longer allowed in the Netherlands, however, Fresh Truffles are allowed to be sold. But don’t worry, growing magic mushrooms at home is still allowed! That is how you can still enjoy a trip on magic mushrooms. Growing magic mushrooms is child’s play. Below, we’ll give you some handy tips on how to manage best.
First things firstThe first step you need to take is deciding what kind of substrate you are going to use. Mushrooms are easy-going organisms and they can grow on a lot of substrates. You can choose to use Coffee Grounds, Rye Grain, Manure, Masters Mix or Logs. See what works best and is easiest for you! After you have chosen the substrate, you can begin to prepare it: the mushrooms will need a micro environment of their own. This is achieved by using a monotub or sealed plastic bags. Make sure to poke a hole in it, so that old air is able to get out. Put your substrate in the bottom of the tote. Or use a jar and put a hole in the lid.
Almost thereNow it is time to put the two together. Inject the spores or cultures of the mushroom that you have into the substrate thatt you chose. For this example, we’ll go with Rye Grain. At this point we have our mushroom substrate that has been inoculated with a mushroom source and it is time to give the mycelium, that is the vegatative part of the fungi, the conditions it needs to start colonizing the substrate. That is, no light and no co2. Make sure it is dark around the substrate and no light is coming in. Let it sit for a few days, and sometimes remove the lid to let a tiny bit of air in so the mushrooms won’t die. After a day or two add 12 hours of light and humidity – a lot of humidity. You don’t want your mushrooms to dry out. After doing this, in a few days time you will see that the mushrooms will start to fruit. Once it is developed as much as you want it to you will have to cut the stem with a knife. And voilà, there are your own harvested mushrooms!
